My Alone Time

I love my alone time. There is nothing better than being by myself, with nothing but my thoughts and the freedom of puttering around. But, too much and I am a sad girl. I have recently become aware of this about myself. There have been a few days in the past that I have noticed this feeling.  I couldn’t quite place it — kind of sad, kind of lonely, kind of unmotivated. You know, just sort of bored. I did a mental checklist of my life. I couldn’t find anything that I thought would support these feelings. Then it came to me. I need connection.

One of the best times of my life was when I was living in Grand Cayman. I really didn’t understand why it was so awesome until this moment. Everyday I had connection and community. Here we were, a bunch of ex-pats creating this home away from home feeling. Daily I spent time with new friends that became good friends. We talked and shared. We didn’t have the demands or responsibilities of “regular” life. Sure, we had to work and pay our bills but that was about it. None of us had a car. We biked, took the bus or bummed a ride to where we needed to go. We hung out a lot and I loved it.

So here I am, realizing that I really miss connecting, and hanging out with people. When I am not making time for that, I get sad. Wow, what a revelation.

I also realized that during this time I might also feel like eating or maybe going to buy myself something — anything to not feel the feeling. So it is a relief to find out what it is that I really need and make some changes to bring more connection into my life.

I share my awareness because I know I am not alone. There are many of you struggling with similar feelings. There are also many of you that are having trouble finding balance in your life.

I encourage you to take the time to be with the uncomfortable feelings and notice the message that is there for you. Maybe you need more connection too. Or, Maybe you need some alone time because you are always connecting. The important thing is to listen and then do what you can to create balance in your life.

Do you need connection? Or

Do you need alone time?

What will make your heart smile?

Let me know, I would love to hear from you.
